What is Form 5500 and why do we need to file it?
Form 5500 is a reporting & disclosure document for employee benefit plans, required by certain Titles in ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, as amended. It is filed with the Department of Labor and is not a tax return. Failure to file Form 5500 may result in a civil penalty of up to $1,100 per day, if discovered.
